Art Therapy
Creative support for care homes, charities and community groups across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
for organisations
What Art Therapy is
Art therapy is a recognised form of psychotherapy, delivered by qualified art therapists. It combines creative expression with talking therapy to support emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. Participants do not need any artistic skills. The focus is on expression, not on making “good” art.
As described by the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), art therapy uses art materials as its primary mode of communication. It can help people explore emotions, process life changes, reduce stress and connect with others in meaningful ways.
In a group or one-to-one setting, participants might use materials such as drawing, painting, collage or clay to reflect on their experiences. This may happen through quiet creativity, shared conversation or a combination of both.
In care and community settings, art therapy can support:
People living with dementia, long-term illness or memory loss
Carers who may be experiencing stress, isolation or emotional strain
Older adults adjusting to change, loss or transition
Groups who benefit from creative and non-verbal ways of expression
The development of connection, resilience and shared meaning
Each session is shaped around the needs of those involved. It can be more structured or open-ended, reflective or activity-based. The aim is to offer a calm and therapeutic space that fits gently into your existing setting.
How I work with organisations
I offer freelance art therapy to care homes, charities and community groups across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Sessions can be arranged on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, depending on the needs of your setting.
Art therapy can be introduced as a short-term project, a series of group sessions, or a one-off offering to mark an event, seasonal theme or reflective space. Some organisations choose to begin with a trial or introductory session, while others plan for a longer block of work.
Each piece of work is developed in conversation with you. I take time to understand the people you support, the environment you work in, and what kind of approach might suit your group. Sessions can be more structured, with themes or prompts, or more open and reflective. I am always happy to adapt the format to fit comfortably within your setting.
I offer sessions in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Fees
I offer freelance art therapy to organisations across Edinburgh and the Lothians, including one-to-one sessions, group work, taster workshops, and short-term or ongoing projects. Individual sessions last 60 minutes, while group sessions typically run for 60 to 90 minutes.
Fees reflect not only the session time but also preparation, materials, travel, and professional supervision. I aim to keep costs accessible while ensuring the work is sustainable and well-supported.

Examples of Past Work
Here are a few examples of the kinds of work I’ve done in different community and care settings:
An open art therapy group with residents living with brain injuries, offering space for creativity without a one-size-fits-all activity. Participants were free to engage in their own way, whether through making, watching or simply being present.
One-to-one art therapy with an older adult experiencing psychosis and social isolation, focused on building connection and emotional expression through gentle creative work.
A one-off workshop introducing Zentangle drawing to parents and children, offering a playful and calming space for shared creativity and connection.
These examples are shared in general terms to protect the privacy of those involved. If you’re wondering how art therapy might look in your setting, I’d be happy to explore ideas together.
Let's Talk
If you or someone you care for would like to explore one-to-one art therapy, I offer a free 15-minute chat. This is a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what you're looking for and see if we’re a good fit. If I’m not the right person for you, I can help you find someone who is.
If you're part of an organisation and would like to explore working together, I’d be happy to arrange a longer conversation to discuss your setting and what kind of support might be helpful.
I’ll reply within 24 hours. You can use the form below or get in touch by email, phone or text.
